POINT OF INTEREST
SORRENTO
tour-2-inglese-3
About the origins of Sorrento, there is a legend of the historian Diodoro Siculo, which attributed the foundation of the city to Liparo, son of Ausone, who was king of the Ausoni and son of Ulysses and of the Circe himself. According to this legend, the origin of The city dates back to an Italic population, that of the Ausons, which constituted one of the oldest ethnic groups. However, the pre-Roman city was subject to some influence by Greek culture, as its urban layout seems to indicate, the remains of Porta Parsano, The Door of Marina Grande, as well as the presence at Punta della Campanella dell’Athenaion. The great sanctuary in which the cult of Athena was celebrated was founded according to the legend of Ulysses and devoted to the cult of the Mermaids at first. All these elements could even suggest a Greek presence between the 474 and the 420 BC, when Sorrento was later conquered by the Sanniti. He later entered the orbit of Rome, but he rebelled during the social war when he participated in the nuclide league but was regained together with Stabia in 90 BC By Papius Multius and was definitively returned to obedience by Silla the following year. After peace there was a colony of veterans bridge.
POSITANO

The beauty of the territory of the town of Positano must not be left unnoticed if from the Palaeolithic is the subject of frequentations. Some make up the name of Positano to the god of the sea Neptune, (for the Greeks the name was Poseidon “Posidan”) who would founded the town for the love of the nymph Pasitea others instead look to the god of the sea of the Phoenicians. In any case, it is certain that Greeks and Phoenicians were visiting Positano, perhaps only to trade with locals or refueling. The Romans, always hunting for places of great charm where the good classes could practice their “otium”, built a villa on the present big beach and it is said that Emperor Tiberius, not trusting the capers from which he feared to be poisoned, Send me a drink to buy the flour right at a Positanian mill. The fall of the Roman empire opens to a dark period of which little is known until the ninth century when the Republic of Amalfi becomes a respected naval power and Positano becomes part of its territory enjoying the benefits that maritime trade offered. In the seventies, things began to come as well as the many late Baroque villas witnessed and the town became a force for the privileged destination of the great tour that the heirs of wealthy European families undertook. Having become the residence of many important artists, Positano was immortalized in many of their works, becoming famous all over the world.
SANT’AGATA SUI DUE GOLFI
special
The first inhabitants of the place were Greek colonists who built a necropolis here, in a place improperly called “Desert” (name that the bastard Carmelites gave to their hermitages). More properly the hill should be called “Mount Sirenian” as always indicated by ancient geographers, such as Strabone, and maps, as it hosted the cult of the sirens and perhaps also the ancient and hybrid temple of Etruscan and Greek culture. The small community of Saint Anthony grew out of the square where the church is located, where there is an altar dating back to 1600, the work of the sculptor and architect of Florentine school Dionisio Lazzari made of mother of pearl and lapis lazuli from the ancient church of the Girolamines of Naples and unique for its beauty according to the historian Neapolitan DAParrino (1700) who argued “that perhaps similar can not be found in the world”. The village overlooks the two gulfs of Naples and Salerno, from where it is possible to get off at a small beach known as Marina di Crapolla, located in the territory of Torca and reachable only by sea or through a long pedestrian path marked by hundreds of steps. According to a legend, the apostle Peter landed on his difficult journey to Rome. He is dedicated to a small church, revered by fishermen of the ancient village, and built on the remains of the temple of Apollo.
